Former Tamale Mayor and ex-Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Forestry Commission, Musah Superior, has declared unwavering support for Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, insisting that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will continue to back him as its flagbearer in the 2028 elections, regardless of the 2024 setback.
He said the party’s commitment to the former Vice President remained resolute and would not be swayed by criticisms from within.
Reacting to recent comments by NPP flagbearer aspirant Dr Bryan Acheampong, who suggested that Dr Bawumia should be sidelined because he failed to secure victory in seven regions during the 2024 elections, Musah Superior dismissed the claim as baseless.
“So Bryan Acheampong says what, because Dr Mahamudu Bawumia didn’t win in seven regions, we should put him aside? Let me tell Bryan and the people who think like him. We will never abandon Dr Bawumia. NPP will never abandon him,” he stressed.
He further pledged that the party faithful would continue to work tirelessly for Dr Bawumia’s success in future elections.
“We are going to work for him, we are going to push him and we are going to encourage him to be our flagbearer in 2028. If he doesn’t win in 2028, we will bring him in 2032; if he fails in 2032, we will bring him in 2036; and if he fails in 2036, we will bring him in 2040. If he doesn’t win in 2040, he will come back in 2044 until he becomes President,” Musah Superior said.
Quoting the late Sir John, Musah Superior emphasised the depth of the NPP’s loyalty to Dr Bawumia, adding that his candidature transcended electoral setbacks.
“Like Sir John said, even if he is in a wheelchair, we will push him to the presidency,” he declared, underscoring his belief that Dr Bawumia’s leadership is indispensable to the party’s future.
