The Member of Parliament (MP) for Akuapem North, Sammy Awuku, has raised concerns over alleged vote-buying incidents in the ongoing Akwatia by-election.
Speaking to JoyNews after touring several polling stations on Tuesday, September 2, Mr. Awuku claimed that he had received information that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) had been distributing money to influence voters.
“We have heard more of the NDC side sharing money. Let me issue a caveat, I haven’t seen it, but that is what we have been told by the people on the ground—that the NDC have been sharing money," he said.
"I have not seen it, but I have raised it with the police. There are a couple of places that we visited where these allegations have been raised,” he added.
Despite the concerns, the MP described the overall atmosphere as peaceful and transparent.
“So far, all the places I have visited have been peaceful, and in all fairness, have been fair,” he noted.
Expressing confidence in his party’s candidates' chances, Mr. Awuku added, “I’m very optimistic and I believe that Akwatia will produce Asumadu.”
