NPP Youth Organiser Salam Mustapha has defended the party following the arrest and remand of its Bono Regional Chairman, Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen, Mustapha urged that the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, should not be dragged into partisan politics.
“We don’t want to make the IGP Yohuno the subject, and that is why we want him to stay out of politics,” he said.
He dismissed attempts by the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) to lecture the NPP on political civility, arguing that those who once supported similar tactics against opponents cannot now claim moral authority.
“They can’t benefit from something and then tell us it is wrong. When it was being done to their opponents, they were clapping. Beneficiaries should not try to teach us morals. We will not take lessons from the brothel. We will not take moral lessons from harlots and sluts. We will face them squarely,” he declared.
Mustapha further noted that political insults are not new to Ghana, stressing that both the NPP and NDC have long engaged in such rhetoric.
“Personally, I have been insulted by both NPP and NDC people all the time, but I have taken them into my bosom because it is nothing new,” he said.
Abronye was arrested on Monday, September 8, by the Ghana Police Service on charges of “offensive conduct conducive to the breach of public peace.” He is currently on remand and expected to reappear in court on Friday, September 30.
The party chairman has recently attracted attention for his controversial remarks and for seeking asylum in multiple countries, including the U.S. and U.K., citing alleged threats to his life.
