Member of Parliament for Kumawu, Ernest Anim, has declared his full support for Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer for the 2028 elections.
Speaking at Effiduase in the Ashanti Region on Thursday, Mr Anim said research indicated that the party’s defeat in the 2024 elections was due to internal challenges rather than its presidential candidate.
He argued that Dr Bawumia, having gained nationwide recognition and experience, deserved another chance to lead the NPP to victory.
"Each of us bears some responsibility for our loss in 2024, from how we relate to each other to the policies of our government. All of us know this," Mr Anim stated.
He urged party members to put aside blame and focus on rebuilding unity. "However, this is not the time to lament and apportion blame. This is the time to preach unity, come together, and put our best foot forward to secure victory," he said.
Highlighting Dr. Bawumia’s popularity, Mr. Anim stressed: "We don't know who the other party will bring. But we have a tried, tested, and battle-hardened candidate who represented us in the last election. Every village and house in Ghana has heard of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia."
He concluded with a firm endorsement: "We have five men in our flagbearer contest, but I am convinced the one who can take us to the 2028 finish line is Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. He is our best bet for victory, and I proudly support him."
