Asante Kotoko head coach Karim Zito says he will be delighted to guide the club to CAF Confederation Cup success in the upcoming campaign.
The Porcupine Warriors will feature in this year’s competition after winning the MTN FA Cup, edging lower-tier side Golden Kick FC 2-1 in the final.
Kotoko open their continental campaign with a two-legged preliminary round tie against Nigerian side Kwara United, with the first leg set for September 21 at the Accra Sports Stadium and the return fixture a week later.
Speaking ahead of the clash, Zito called for unity among supporters as the club embarks on its African journey.
“Going into Africa is not easy, so I am pleading with the fans to stay united and support the team,” he told Asempa FM.
“I played and won Africa, so I will be happy to win this tournament, but it must start with the fans coming together. The target is to get into the money zone, but we must first win the game against Kwara United.”
Should Kotoko advance, they will face Moroccan giants Wydad Athletic Club in the second round of the qualifiers.
