A fire has broken out at a section of the Greenhouse Factory located in Shai Hills, prompting an emergency response from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) on Monday, October 13.
According to an official update shared on the GNFS Facebook page, the fire was reported earlier today and has drawn firefighting teams from four different stations: Gbetsile, Devtraco, Tema Metro, and the Motorway Fire Stations.
The fire service described the situation as serious, noting that “rigorous firefighting operations are underway.”

The extent of the damage, the cause of the fire, and whether there have been any casualties remain unknown.

It adds to the growing number of fire outbreaks recorded this year, resulting in fatalities and destruction of properties.
In 2024, Ghana experienced a 7.8% increase in fire outbreaks, reaching a total of 6,436 incidents.
The Greater Accra Region had the highest number of fires (1,309), followed by the Ashanti Region (1,145).
Key factors contributing to the rise included harsh weather conditions, a lack of adherence to fire safety protocols, and rural-urban migration leading to the expansion of informal settlements.
Despite the increase, the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) reportedly saved over GH¢550 million worth of property.
