The Comptroller-General of Immigration (CGI), Mr Samuel Basintale Amadu, has visited AICO II Daniel Kofi Oppong at the Tamale Teaching Hospital, where he is receiving treatment after surviving a violent assault at the Gbintri checkpoint in the North East Region.
The attack claimed the life of AICO II Rafiq Mohammed, who was on duty with AICO II Oppong at the time.
Expressing deep sorrow during the visit, Mr Amadu condemned the assault, describing it as a “cowardly act” that would not weaken the Service’s resolve to protect Ghana’s borders and combat transnational crime.

“This cowardly attack will not deter us,” he stated firmly. “We remain steadfast in our commitment to safeguarding the nation’s borders. Our officers will continue to receive the necessary protective equipment and logistical support to execute their duties effectively,” he said.
He also appealed to the public to provide any information that could lead to the arrest of the perpetrators.
The visit formed part of Mr Amadu’s tour of the North East Region, which seeks to assess operational preparedness and boost the morale of frontline officers.

He was accompanied by DCOI Maud Anima Quainoo, Head of the Public Affairs Department, Northern Regional Commander; DCOI Thomas Adjei; Chief Staff Officer, ACOI Gorden Saah; and other senior officers.
The Immigration Service has reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with other security agencies to ensure that justice is served.
