The government’s intensified fight against illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey, has reportedly recorded another success in the Ahafo Region.

The National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS), during a recent operation, is said to have flushed out a group of illegal miners from a site at Bronikrom–Hwediem, arresting several individuals, including a Burkinabe national.

The operation was revealed by the Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, who shared details of the raid on his X handle.
According to his post, NAIMOS “continues to strike at the heart of illegal mining,” describing the latest action as part of ongoing efforts to curb the environmental destruction caused by galamsey.

He noted that the illegal activity was taking place close to a major road, about ten meters from the Hwediem–Goaso Highway.
