Former Vice President and 2024 Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic incident at the El Wak Stadium that claimed the lives of several young Ghanaians.
The incident, which occurred on Wednesday during a recruitment exercise by the Ghana Armed Forces, has left many families devastated and the nation in mourning.
In a heartfelt message, Dr Bawumia extended his condolences to the bereaved families and wished the injured a swift recovery.
“My condolences go out to the families of the young Ghanaians who lost their lives today at the El Wak Stadium,” he said. “May the injured recover quickly, and the souls of our departed ladies rest in peace.”
He described the tragedy as a painful reminder of the need to prioritise safety and proper crowd management at public events, especially those involving young people.
According to Dr Bawumia, the lives lost represent “a heartbreaking blow to families and the nation at large.”
The former Vice President called on relevant authorities to provide the necessary support to the victims and their families, and to take measures to prevent such occurrences in the future.
“We must ensure that no Ghanaian life is lost under preventable circumstances,” Dr Bawumia emphasised.
