The United States Embassy in Accra has expressed deep condolences to the families and loved ones affected by the tragic stampede at the El-Wak Sports Stadium in Accra during a Ghana Armed Forces recruitment exercise on Wednesday, November 12, 2025.
In a brief statement posted on Facebook, the Embassy said:
“The U.S. Embassy offers its deepest sympathies to the families and loved ones of those who lost their lives during the November 12 recruitment exercise at the El-Wak Sports Stadium in Accra. Our thoughts are with the people of Ghana in this painful moment,” the statement read.

The Embassy’s message of condolence adds to the growing expressions of grief and solidarity from various institutions and organisations across the country and beyond.
The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) confirmed that 34 casualties were recorded, including six deaths, and said a Board of Inquiry has been constituted to unravel the circumstances that led to the unfortunate incident.
The Defence Ministry has also assured the public that steps are being taken to support the injured and prevent similar incidents in the future.
