A rapid response by the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) on Friday, November 21, 2025, prevented a fire at Aboabo Extension, near Mighty Royal International School, from spreading to surrounding structures.
The blaze engulfed 107 wooden makeshift dwellings occupied by over 100 squatters. Residents initially tried to control the fire using buckets of water before firefighters arrived on the scene.

According to a statement issued by the Ashanti Regional PRO, DO II Peter Addai, two fire pumps were dispatched from the Manhyia and KNUST Fire Stations, with the Manhyia tender arriving at 9:55 a.m.
It said reinforcements from KNUST helped bring the fire under control by 10:21 a.m., and it was fully extinguished by 10:28 a.m.
The statement said that although all affected wooden structures and their contents were completely destroyed, no casualties were reported.
The GNFS credited the swift intervention for limiting the damage to a quarter-hectare area and preventing the fire from spreading to nearby homes and facilities.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
