Men should also be held accountable in conversations about infertility, Counselor Perfect has said.
Speaking on the Let’s Talk on Joy Prime with Aseiduwaa, he stressed that the tendency to blame only women is unfair and medically unsound.
According to him, “Men must also be blamed for infertility,” a reality he said is often ignored in public discussions.
He explained that marriage involves two people and infertility can come from either partner.
“Marriage is the clash of two, so the issue of infertility can be as a result of the man or the woman,” he stated. He criticised society for placing disproportionate blame on women and creating the impression that infertility is mainly a female problem.
Counselor Perfect noted that many women are labelled as barren without any proper medical check. “Society puts so much emphasis on women, forgetting that impotency is also there,” he said. He added that this mindset puts unnecessary emotional pressure on women who are often expected to shoulder the full responsibility for conception.
He pointed out that the blame fuels family tensions and psychological stress.
“Families start fighting the woman, putting the burden on her because she carries the child,” he said, urging the public to rethink these attitudes.
Counselor Perfect ended with a call for fairness and education.
“We need to stop blaming women for infertility. Men, too, can be infertile, sometimes because of certain practices they engage in,” he said. He urged couples and families to adopt a balanced and medically grounded approach.
