The Minister for Transportation, Joseph Bukari Nikpe, has announced the deployment of an 11-member task force to conduct a comprehensive assessment of public transport conditions across Accra.
The initiative is part of a broader strategy to address the persistent mobility challenges that continue to inconvenience commuters in the capital. The task force, which has already commenced its work, is expected to submit its report by Saturday, December 13.
The move follows the Minister’s earlier disclosure that eight additional buses will soon be deployed on major routes to ease the daily struggle many workers face when attempting to secure transport after work.
According to him, the task force will provide detailed insights to guide decisions on whether to introduce more buses or expand services to underserved areas.
The team’s mandate includes analysing the root causes of traffic congestion, assessing commuter experiences and evaluating the availability and efficiency of existing public transport services.
Speaking on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show on Thursday, December 11, Mr Nikpe reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to sustainable measures that will improve mobility and reduce the number of stranded passengers, especially during peak hours.
