Senior government officials and leading figures of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have converged at Jackson’s Park in Koforidua to mourn with the family of the late former Defence Minister, Dr Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, as final funeral rites are held today.

Among those expected at the ceremony are Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyeman, Chief of Staff Julius Debrah, senior NDC executives, traditional leaders, and members of the public, all gathered to pay their last respects to the late statesman at the New Juaben South Municipality venue. The funeral ceremony is scheduled to begin at 12:00 noon.

Dr Omane Boamah, a former Defence Minister and Director of Elections and Information Technology of the NDC, died on August 6, 2025, in a tragic military helicopter crash. The accident involved a Ghana Air Force Harbin Z-9EH helicopter, with tail number GHF 631, and claimed the lives of all eight people on board.

The crash also took the lives of other prominent personalities, including Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, Minister of Environment, Science and Technology; Muniru Mohammed Limuna, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator; Samuel Sarpong, NDC Vice-Chair; Samuel Aboagye, a former parliamentary candidate; Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala; Flying Officer Manaen Twum Ampadu; and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.
