The Ghana Prisons Service has officially launched its transformative “Think Prison 360 Degrees” initiative in Koforidua, Eastern Region, aimed at improving prison welfare, promoting industrialisation, and fostering sustainable development within the correctional system.
The launch, held on 12 December 2025, was led by the Director-General of Prisons, Mrs Patience Baffoe-Bonnie (Esq.), and brought together representatives from all seven prison stations in the region, alongside officials from sister security agencies.
During the visit, Mrs Baffoe-Bonnie paid courtesy calls on the Eastern Regional Minister, Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey, and the Paramount Chief of New Juaben, Daasebre Kwaku Boateng III, both of whom expressed strong support for the initiative.

Particular emphasis was placed on the Prison Improvement and Sustainability Pesewa Fund (PISPES), a key component of the programme.
Both dignitaries made initial contributions to the fund and pledged to encourage their networks to support the initiative.

The launch was preceded by a vibrant float through the main streets of Koforidua, designed to raise public awareness about the programme.
Among the dignitaries in attendance were Mr Benedict Bob-Dery, Director of Prisons in charge of Operations and Facility Management; DDP Patrick Thomas Seidu, Eastern Regional Commander; Moses Tangmee, District Chief Executive; and ACP Richard Appiah, Deputy Eastern Regional Police Commander.

The Think Prison 360 Degrees initiative seeks to enhance the welfare of staff, promote agricultural mechanisation, drive industrialisation, encourage prison-based businesses, foster wealth creation, and build strategic partnerships.
Early developments indicate the initiative is already gaining momentum, with visible improvements being recorded across the region’s facilities.

Mrs Baffoe-Bonnie expressed optimism that the programme would transform Ghana’s correctional landscape, making prisons centres of productivity, empowerment, and innovation for both staff and inmates.
