The National Democratic Congress (NDC) says it will continue its campaign activities despite the Supreme Court’s decision to suspend the parliamentary rerun in the constituency.
In an interview on JoyNews' The Pulse on Tuesday, the Deputy Director of Elections and IT of the NDC, Rashid Tanko Computer, said the court’s ruling does not amount to a cancellation of the rerun and therefore does not prevent the party from preparing and campaigning.
“Who told you that we are stopping our preparations? Has the Supreme Court said we should stop campaigning in the constituency?” he asked.
According to him, the suspension of the rerun rather presents the NDC with additional time to strengthen its campaign machinery.
“We are going on with our campaign. Suspension doesn’t mean cancellation. The Supreme Court did not cancel the rerun; it only asked that it be suspended for now. This gives us ample time to organise ourselves better and intensify our campaign,” he stated.
Mr. Tanko further expressed confidence in the party’s prospects, insisting that the suspension merely delays an inevitable outcome.
“What has happened is simply a deferment of their defeat. The NPP has only postponed their defeat, which was going to happen on the 30th and has now moved to January 13,” he added.
Meanwhile, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) says it would not campaign in the constituency pending the final determination of the case in court.
Deputy General Secretary of the party, Haruna Mohammed, has indicated that the NPP will await the court’s decision before taking further action.
