The Ashanti Regional Police Command has arrested two motorbike mechanics accused of murdering a 28‑year‑old woman during a robbery at Asokore Mampong. 

Three others are also assisting with investigations into a series of street robberies within the Kumasi Metropolis. 

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Arthur Osei Akoto, at a media briefing on Monday, said the arrests followed recent security operations carried out in two separate exercises. 

“Two (2) of the suspects were arrested in connection with the robbery and murder of Silver Ngozi, a 28‑year‑old female,” he said. 

DCOP Akoto said the incident occurred on December 6, 2025, at about 1700 hours at Asokore Mampong. 

He said that on December 12, 2025, at about 2100 hours, a joint team from the Regional Police Headquarters and the Anti‑Robbery Unit arrested the suspects at their hideout at Aboabo. 

“The suspects have been identified as: Farouk Iddris, aged 20 years, motorbike mechanic and rider, and Salim Mohammed, aged 19 years, motorbike mechanic and rickshaw rider.  

“Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects robbed the deceased, during which one of them allegedly stabbed her with a knife, leading to her death,” he said. 

A search in Iddris’s room led to the retrieval of a machete, knives and other offensive weapons. 

“During interrogation, both suspects admitted to committing the robbery. Salim Mohammed, who was the pillion rider on the day of the incident, identified a zigzag‑edged knife as the weapon he used to stab the deceased,” DCOP Akoto said. 

He said the suspects were in Police custody and would be put before court. The knife and an iPhone 11 Pro belonging to the deceased had been retained as evidence. 

In a related operation, three suspects were arrested for their involvement in street robberies within Asokore Mampong, KNUST, Kanyase, Bosore, Duase, Antoa, Mayanka, Ayeduase and nearby communities. 

The suspects were named as Abdul Fatawu, alias “UN”, 22; Philip Nyarko, alias “Kawawa”, 24; and Samak Hadi, alias “Toronto”, 21. 

Items retrieved from their hideouts included 59 iPhones, six Android phones, four tablets and five laptops. 

DCOP Akoto said all three suspects had confessed in their caution statements and were assisting with investigations. 

“The Ashanti Regional Police Command appeals to members of the public who may have fallen victim to these criminal activities within the affected areas to report to the Command to assist with ongoing investigations,” he said. 

DCOP Akoto said that all suspects would be arraigned in due course and assured the public of the Service’s commitment to maintaining peace, law and order in the region.
