Parliament of Ghana have passed the Sports Fund Bill.
The bill which began about eight years ago, was passed on Thursday, December 18, 2025, after it was submitted by the Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams.
The passage of the Bill follows years of detailed scrutiny, consultations and bipartisan deliberations on the floor of the House.
The Sports Fund will serve as the dedicated source of funding for the development of sports in Ghana.
Early this year, Sports Minister, Kofi Adams revealed that it would be submitted to the house for passage, after it underwent rigorous review by Cabinet and the Parliamentary Select Committee on Youth and Sports, working closely with the Ministry of Finance, the Office of the Attorney-General, the Parliamentary Legal Committee and other key stakeholders.
At the heart of the Bill is the creation of a legally backed, multi-source Sports Development Fund designed to support athlete welfare, infrastructure development, grassroots sport, and systematic talent identification.
The framework places emphasis on performance, accountability and long-term planning, addressing longstanding funding gaps within the sector.
Once operational, the Fund is expected to mobilise substantial resources annually through a mix of statutory allocations, donations and other approved revenue streams.
It will be managed by an independent governing board and aligned with the forthcoming National Sports Policy, with clear accountability mechanisms built into its governance structure.
