The District Chief Executive for Akatsi North, Bless Kwadzo Katamani, has cautioned beneficiaries under the Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) programme against selling the livelihood support items provided to them.
Mr Katamani acknowledged that the urge to convert the items into quick cash may be strong, but urged beneficiaries to resist such temptation and instead invest the support into productive ventures capable of delivering long-term economic benefits.

He stressed that the true worth of the intervention lies not in immediate financial gain, but in the sustainable livelihoods the items are intended to create.
The DCE made the remarks at a brief ceremony to hand over livelihood support items to 53 beneficiaries in the Akatsi North District.

The initiative was funded through the District’s Internally Generated Funds (IGF) and the Member of Parliament’s Common Fund.
The items distributed, valued at over GH¢600,000, constitute the second batch of support delivered within the past three months.

They include cash grants, laptops, tricycles, water storage tanks (poly tanks), bags of cement and fertiliser, deep freezers, chairs, industrial sewing machines, electric scooters, corn mills and roofing sheets, among other tools aimed at enhancing the economic independence of beneficiaries.
Mr Katamani explained that the intervention aligns with the government’s reset agenda, which seeks to improve the living conditions of vulnerable groups and demonstrate a responsive and caring governance system.

He emphasised that the programme is designed to promote self-reliance, dignity and inclusion among persons with disabilities.
To ensure accountability and sustainability, he disclosed that a monitoring committee has been established to regularly assess the use of the items.

The DCE warned that beneficiaries found to have misused or sold the items would be held accountable, and encouraged recipients to seize the opportunity to build stable livelihoods and contribute meaningfully to the socio-economic development of the district.
