Kwesi Nyantakyi, a member of Kennedy Agyapong’s campaign team, has described the flagbearer candidate as the most popular and electable politician in Ghana, insisting that his appeal cuts across party lines ahead of the New Patriotic Party’s flagbearer contest.
Speaking on the AM Show, Mr Nyantakyi said Mr Agyapong’s popularity extends beyond the NPP to supporters of other political parties, including the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the Convention People’s Party (CPP), who he claims are eager to vote for him if he emerges as the party’s presidential candidate for the 2028 general elections.
“Kennedy Agyapong is one particular politician in Ghana whose popularity knows no bounds,” he said. “There are people in other political parties, such as the NDC, CPP and others, who admire and support him and are even asking the NPP to present him as its candidate so they can vote for him.”
Mr Nyantakyi described the businessman-politician as a “fearless and courageous” leader whose unconventional style resonates with ordinary Ghanaians across markets, churches and public spaces. According to him, Mr Agyapong’s messaging on jobs, cost of living and anti-corruption aligns with what voters are currently demanding from a presidential candidate.
He argued that these qualities place Mr Agyapong ahead of other contenders in the ongoing NPP flagbearer race, citing what he described as strong levels of acceptability and electability among party supporters and the general public.
“If you go to the markets, churches and lorry stations, everybody is talking about Kennedy Agyapong,” Mr Nyantakyi said, adding that “he appears to be the frontrunner in this contest.”
The comments come as the New Patriotic Party prepares to elect its flagbearer on Saturday, January 31, ahead of the 2028 general elections. Mr Nyantakyi expressed confidence that NPP delegates will endorse Mr Agyapong to lead the party into the next polls, arguing that he stands a strong chance of securing victory for the party.
“I am very hopeful that on Saturday, the delegates of the NPP will elect him as the flagbearer so that he can lead the party into the 2028 election and emerge victorious,” he added.
