Retired security analyst Colonel Festus Aboagye has cautioned that rising geopolitical tensions could potentially escalate into a major global conflict, including the possibility of a world war.
Colonel Aboagye pointed to what he described as aggressive power projection by major global actors, including perceived efforts by US President Donald Trump to assert dominance on the international stage.
“It’s very possible that all these dynamics could usher the world into a World War,” he warned, stressing that the evolving international order poses serious risks to global peace and stability.
He noted that while nuclear weapons have traditionally acted as a deterrent to large-scale conflict, that assumption may no longer hold in today’s volatile environment.
“The idea of nuclear wars being a prohibitive factor [is changing],” he said in an interview with Channel One TV, citing recent developments as cause for concern.
Colonel Aboagye also referenced conflicts in 2025, including clashes between India and Pakistan, as examples of how quickly regional disputes can escalate.
“We could have a World War, which incrementally you start, maybe with rifles, machine guns and aircraft,” he said, highlighting the potential for small-scale confrontations to spiral into far-reaching global crises.
