The Central North Regional Police Command has arrested 100 residents of Assin Wurakese following a recent mob attack on a patient at the Akoti Health Centre.
Briefing the media, the Regional Police Commander, DCOP Abraham Acquaye, stated that sustained intelligence revealed the attack was a coordinated mob action involving multiple individuals from the community.
About 85 police personnel were deployed to conduct a swoop in the area to identify and isolate those directly and indirectly involved.
DCOP Acquaye explained that all 100 suspects will undergo screening. Those found culpable will be arraigned, while innocent persons will be released. He clarified that the mass arrest was based on evidence that some residents failed to prevent the crime, aided or abetted the attackers, or harboured suspects without reporting to the police.
This follows earlier arrests connected to the case. A community police officer and Yaw Buabeng—previously a victim of mob attack and also a suspect in a related matter—were earlier arrested, arraigned, and remanded. They are to reappear on February 5, 2026.
Another suspect, Daniel Ababio, seen in a viral video allegedly attacking Yaw Buabeng with scissors at the health centre, has also been arrested.
DCOP Acquaye cautioned the public against filming attacks instead of intervening or alerting the police, noting such inaction is unlawful.
He assured that the Police Command will not yield to pressure from politicians, traditional authorities, or any influential persons, and will apply the law without fear or favour.
