The National Administrator of the Kennedy Agyapong campaign, Charles Bissue, has strongly pushed back against claims that the former Assin Central MP is not “presidential material,” questioning what critics really mean by the label.
Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, Bissue dismissed the narrative and mocked the criteria being used to judge leadership suitability.
“I beg them, is it GTP or Printex when they talk of presidential material?” he asked. “What exactly do they mean by material?”
His comments come amid debate within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) over the suitability of aspirants contesting the party’s January 31 presidential primary.
According to Bissue, Kennedy Agyapong’s political appeal is rooted in his ability to connect with ordinary party supporters, describing him as a natural crowd puller.
“Kennedy Agyapong is like a magnet, and over the years, he has proven it,” he said.
He argued that popularity and grassroots strength, rather than elite branding, should define a presidential contender.
To illustrate his point, Bissue proposed an open test among the aspirants.
“If we want, we can assemble all the aspirants. Each of them will be assigned a day to address delegates, and we will see the number of crowds each will pull,” he stated.
According to him, the outcome would be clear.
“Kennedy Agyapong’s numbers will be phenomenal,” Bissue added.
He maintained that the former MP’s visibility, consistency, and ability to mobilise supporters across regions make him a serious contender, contrary to attempts by critics to downplay his credentials.
Bissue stressed that leadership should not be judged by polished appearances but by influence, trust, and connection with the grassroots.
“When people say presidential material, they should explain whether they are talking about branding or leadership. For us, Kennedy has shown over the years that people believe in him,” he noted.
