The Member of Parliament for Madina, Francis Xavier Sosu, has urged the government to consider converting the Pantang–Abokobi Road into a dual carriageway, citing its strategic importance to the surrounding communities and national institutions.
Mr. Sosu made the appeal during an inspection of ongoing rehabilitation works on the road, which connects Pantang Junction to the Abokobi Boie Junction, on Saturday, February 7, 2026.
He highlighted the road’s critical role in serving key health facilities, including the 50-year-old Pantang Hospital, the incoming Ghana Health Service headquarters, and projects under the Mental Health Authority, alongside a rapidly growing residential population.

“The Pantang Road has been a major concern. Along this stretch, we have important health institutions and an increasing number of residents. Its condition has raised serious concerns over the years,” he said.
While welcoming the approval of a single carriageway by President John Dramani Mahama through the Roads Minister, Mr. Sosu advocated for an upgrade to a dual carriageway.
“Although the current approval is for a single carriageway, we humbly request that the Roads Minister visit the site to appreciate the nature of the road and consider upgrading it to a dual carriageway for the benefit of the people,” he added.

He also called on residents to cooperate with construction teams despite expected disruptions. “There will be some discomfort, but we ask for patience until the project is completed for the betterment of the entire community,” he said.
Awerco Construction, the contractor handling the project, has assured that measures are in place to minimise delays. Managing Director Joseph Adams explained that work will continue both day and night to overcome traffic challenges and ensure timely completion.

He urged residents and motorists to observe traffic guidelines and exercise patience throughout the construction period.
