A man was killed in Tamale after a disagreement over an unpaid debt for Tramadol, a powerful opioid painkiller.
The victim had allegedly purchased two tablets of Tramadol worth GH¢50 but failed to pay, leading to a violent confrontation with two suspects, Abubakari Mohammed and Rasheed Sumaila.
The leader of the IGP Special Operations Team Dsp Bawah Abdul Jalil, the suspects beat the victim to death and attempted to flee.
He said Abubakari Mohammed was arrested on the Accra-Kumasi Road while trying to escape. Rasheed Sumaila was later apprehended, and three individuals, including Sumaila's father, were arrested for obstructing police duties.
"The deceased had purchased two tablets of Tramadol (120mg) at a cost of GH¢25.00 each but failed to make payment," Abubakari Mohammed confessed to police. According to Dsp Bawah
He said his team also conducted swoop operations, arresting six additional suspects for possession and sale of suspected Indian hemp and opioids.
The team lead said the body has been preserved for further investigation, and exhibits have been retained for forensic examination.
