Deputy National Democratic Congress (NDC) Secretary Mustapha Gbande has expressed confidence that the NDC is set for a decisive victory in the ongoing Ayawaso East by-election, describing the contest as largely a family affair in the constituency.
In an interview with Adom News on March 3, Mr Gbande noted that the voting process has been peaceful, with law enforcement present to maintain order.
“Everybody knows and understands that the Nima election is a family affair. So the exercise has been peaceful,” he said.
He downplayed the presence of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), asserting that the opposition was only there to “escort us” and did not play a significant role in the voting.
“The NPP only came to escort us,” Gbande remarked, adding that the police have been ensuring calm and order throughout the exercise.
The deputy secretary also encouraged voter participation, emphasising that by-elections often see lower turnout but remain important for strengthening democracy.
“By-elections usually have low turnout. But at the end of the day, the NDC candidate will be declared 80%,” he said, projecting a commanding win for his party.
