Cracks are emerging on the labour front as the Trades Union Congress (TUC) has declared it cannot yet endorse the indefinite nationwide strike initiated by the Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG), which is crippling government operations across the country.
In an interview with JoyNews' Rafiq Salam, the General Secretary of TUC, Joshua Ansah, explained, “I cannot confirm support or opposition at this stage because I have not yet received details on the reasons for the strike.
"We will engage with their leadership, and if necessary, extend our support. After all, if you affect one worker, you affect all workers."
The government has convened a high-level meeting with leaders of the association as the strike increasingly disrupts public administration, leaving many Ghanaians struggling to access essential services.
The industrial action is a protest against working conditions and the implementation of agreed terms of service, following several unsuccessful attempts to engage the government.
This comes despite an order from the National Labour Commission directing the association to suspend the strike and return to the negotiation table.
CLOGSAG, however, has instructed its members nationwide to disregard the directive and continue with the action.
Across the country, the strike is already having a major impact, with citizens unable to access key government services, further intensifying pressure on public institutions to resolve the standoff.
