The Ghana Police Service has arrested four field officers of Bills Micro-Credit Limited following a widely circulated video showing a confrontation between the officers and a woman at Ashongman Estate in Accra.
The incident gained public attention after footage shared on social media captured the officers arguing with the woman, who was holding a baby, over an alleged unpaid loan of GH¢300. During the confrontation, one of the officers was seen taking the woman’s mobile phone.
In the video, the woman is shown attempting to retrieve her phone while still carrying the child, but she loses her balance and falls to the ground.
The footage sparked widespread criticism online and prompted calls for authorities to investigate the matter.
In a statement issued on March 15, 2026, the Accra Regional Police Command said the Kwabenya District Police Command had launched investigations into the alleged assault following a complaint lodged by the victim, identified as 42-year-old Hagar Emaser.
According to the police, she reported that four officials from the microcredit company visited her residence on March 13 to demand repayment of a loan and allegedly assaulted her during the encounter.
The suspects—Denis Wornyo, 38; Albert Amarh, 40; Ebenezer Amartei, 23; and Atsu Lawson, 27—were arrested on Sunday, March 15, and are currently in police custody assisting with investigations.
Meanwhile, Bills Micro-Credit Limited said it had taken disciplinary action against the officers involved.
In a separate statement, the company indicated that the individuals captured in the video were immediately suspended on the orders of its board while both internal and police investigations continue.
The Accra Regional Police Command has encouraged members of the public who experience assault or similar offences to promptly report such incidents to the police to enable swift investigations and appropriate action.
