The Chairman of the Ghana House Project Coordination Committee has outlined the progress made towards the implementation of the Ghana House initiative, describing it as a unified national platform aimed at promoting Ghana's trade, investment, tourism, culture and economic opportunities during the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
Speaking at the official press launch of Ghana House at the Ghana High Commission in London on Wednesday, July 8, the Chairman said the project has evolved from an idea to establish a Ghanaian presence at the Commonwealth Games into a coordinated national platform designed to showcase the country's strengths to the international community.
He explained that following consultations involving the Ghana Olympic Committee/Commonwealth Games Association of Ghana, Commonwealth Sport, government institutions and strategic partners, the Coordination Committee was established to harmonise the contributions of participating institutions and develop an integrated implementation framework.
According to him, the Committee has since engaged key stakeholders, including the Ministries of Foreign Affairs; Trade, Agribusiness and Industry; Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts; and Sports and Recreation, as well as the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC), Ghana Export Promotion Authority (GEPA), Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), Ghana Tourism Development Company Limited (GTDCL), the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), the Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council, ASA Plus Destination and the Ghana High Commission in the United Kingdom.
He noted that these engagements have resulted in the development of a comprehensive programme covering trade and investment promotion, tourism marketing, cultural and creative arts exhibitions, export development, diaspora engagement, youth employment initiatives, sports diplomacy, business-to-business meetings, media engagement and post-Games follow-up activities.
“This integrated programme covers trade and investment promotion; tourism and destination marketing; cultural and creative arts presentation; export development; diaspora engagement; youth employment and labour exchange opportunities; sports diplomacy; media and publicity; business-to-business meetings; exhibition participation; and follow-up mechanisms after the Games,” he said.
The Chairman stressed that Ghana House is intended to deliver lasting economic benefits beyond the Commonwealth Games by attracting investment, expanding exports and strengthening international partnerships.
“This is important because Ghana House must not end with an event in Glasgow. It must lead to real opportunities, real partnerships and real outcomes for Ghana,” he stated.
He further appealed to Corporate Ghana, development partners, sponsors and the Ghanaian diaspora to support the initiative, noting that funding remains one of the key priorities ahead of the Games.
“Funding remains one of the critical areas requiring urgent attention. We therefore call on Corporate Ghana, sponsors, development partners, business leaders and members of the diaspora to support this initiative. Ghana House is a national project. Its success will benefit Ghana beyond the Commonwealth Games,” he added.
