President of Ghana, John Mahama, believes the Black Stars can grow stronger and compete heavily at tournaments if current players and the technical team are maintained and supported.
Carlos Queiroz led Ghana to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where the team suffered elimination in the Round of 32 after losing to Colombia.
Prior to that, Ghana defeated Panama, held England to a goalless draw and lost to Croatia during their group campaign.
Despite concerns over how the team played, Mahama believes the Black Stars outdid themselves at the tournament.
"The Black Stars performed admirably at the recent tournament despite many predictions that they would not progress beyond the group stage," he said.
"They exceeded expectations by advancing to the Round of 32, demonstrating determination, resilience and the quality that exists within the team."
Mahama went further to say the Black Stars are capable of punching above their weight if the core of the team and the players can be backed.
"If we maintain this group of players and continue supporting the technical team, I believe we can build a stronger national team capable of competing successfully in future AFCON and FIFA World Cup tournaments."
The Black Stars will turn their attention to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, which start in September.
