Mim Senior High School (SHS) came into the 2026 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) contest with hopes of making amends, but Ofori Panin SHS had other plans.

After a disastrous NSMQ outing last year, Mim SHS needed a statement performance. Instead, their promising start quickly turned into a painful collapse as Ofori Panin SHS stormed back from the bottom to humble all challengers at the SMS Auditorium.

Mim SHS looked like the team to beat after Round One, leading with 19 points, while Oyoko Methodist had 15 points and Ofori Panin trailed on 11 points.

Then the massacre began. Ofori Panin SHS steadily dismantled Mim SHS's early advantage, moving to 25 points in Round Two before exploding to 34 points after Round Three. Mim SHS could only muster 22 points at that stage.

By Round Four, Ofori Panin SHS had stretched the gap to 50 points, 17 clear of Mim, with Oyoko Methodist on 36 points.

Ofori Panin SHS eventually finished on 53 points, leaving Mim SHS stranded on 42 points, while Oyoko Methodist settled for 36 points. Both Ofori Panin SHS and Oyoko Methodist swept the clean sheet award from Jupay, answering all their ‘True’ or ‘False’ questions correctly.

Mim SHS also did salvage some pride in the final round, answering three of four riddles to pocket GH¢800 from Goil PLC.

For Mim SHS, however, the defeat is not the end of the road. Their 42 points could still be enough to earn them a place among the top five runners-up who will progress to the next stage.

While Ofori Panin SHS have secured their passage in style, Mim SHS must now wait—and hope their 42-point haul keeps their NSMQ 2026 dream alive.
