President-elect John Mahama expressed profound gratitude to God, drawing on biblical inspiration to frame his journey to success.
With an air of humility and faith, he paraphrased Psalm 23, declaring, “I give thanks to God for preparing a table before me in the presence of my enemies, for anointing my head with oil, and making my cup run over.”
Mahama’s words resonated deeply with the audience as he acknowledged the divine hand he believed guided him through a gruelling political campaign fraught with challenges.
In an impassioned acceptance speech following his historic election victory, he highlighted his faith as the cornerstone of his perseverance.
“The Almighty God, the Creator of heaven and earth, protected and preserved us through this campaign period,” he proclaimed, reflecting the spiritual lens through which he views his journey.
The president-elect, who faced stiff opposition and scepticism, stated that his victory was not just a personal milestone but a testament to resilience and belief in a higher purpose.
“On many gloomy occasions when success appeared elusive, I leaned on my faith,” Mahama said, adding that the trials only strengthened his resolve.
Mahama also took a moment to reflect on the collective efforts that contributed to his success, extending thanks to his family, campaign team, and supporters.
He reserved special praise for his wife and children, stating, “Through difficult times, you stood by me. Your encouragement kept me soldiering on.”
Acknowledging the broader significance of his victory, Mahama expressed gratitude for the overwhelming mandate given by the people of Ghana.
He pledged to honour their trust by steering the nation towards unity, growth, and prosperity.
Yet, he reminded his audience that this accomplishment was only a step in a larger mission to rebuild Ghana’s shattered confidence and restore its governance systems.
Mahama concluded his speech with a poignant call to action, urging Ghanaians to work together towards a brighter future.
“Our best days are not behind us,” he said. “Our best days are ahead of us. Forever forwards, never backwards.”
