The Attorney General (AG) has acknowledged facing pressure to take corruption-related cases to court, attributing it to the strong public demand for accountability following the National Democratic Congress' (NDC) campaign promise to recover looted state funds.
Addressing a press conference on Monday, March 24, the AG stated that the Operation Recover All Loots (ORAL) initiative was a key pillar of President John Dramani Mahama’s campaign, which resonated with Ghanaians and contributed to the NDC’s electoral victory.
"In fact, the NDC campaigned seriously on the issue of accountability. Ghanaians bought into that campaign, and that is why they voted for us to hold those who have abused public office accountable. So yes, I'm under pressure, but not from political office—it's from ordinary Ghanaians," he stated.
His comments come amid growing public scrutiny over the government’s efforts to prosecute individuals suspected of financial misconduct in previous administrations.
The AG noted that despite his demanding schedule, he remains engaged with public sentiment, particularly through social media, where citizens express eagerness for action against corruption.
"People are in a hurry to know what we are doing about those who have looted state resources. Yes, sometimes even my colleagues feel things aren’t moving as fast as they should, but I have said that I will not rush to court on any matter," he added.
