The Artificial Intelligence for Sustainable Development (AI4SD) project has introduced the Responsible Artificial Intelligence Lab (RAIL) Robotics Club at Peki Senior High School (S.H.S.), marking a new step in providing students with hands-on experiences in Artificial Intelligence (AI), automation, and robotics.
The club aims to help students acquire skills for future careers in STEM while supporting the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) related to education and innovation.
Headmistress of Peki Senior High School, Peace Ama Goka praised the AI4SD RAIL team for introducing the project and emphasized the club’s potential.

“This club will serve as a springboard for our students to dream bigger, experiment freely and innovate without limits.
With the backing the funders, KNUST and technical team we are confident this club will shape the next generation of AI pioneers and robotics engineer,” she said.
The AI4SD RAIL Robotics Club is funded by the French Embassy in Ghana and the Agence Française de Développement (AFD) to promote STEM education in Ghana and beyond.
Prof. Jerry John Kponyo, the AI4SD project lead, emphasised the importance of partnerships for the success of the initiative.

“The collaboration with Peki Senior High School is key to the success of the robotics club, and we appreciate the school’s commitment,” he said.
Dr. Eunice Akyereko Adjei, AI in education team lead under AI4SD, acknowledged the mentors supporting the club.
She introduced the students to tertiary education options after Senior High School (S.H.S), focused on programs at KNUST and encouraged students to consider continuing their education at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).
Dr. Kingsford Sarkodie Obeng Kwakye, a member of the AI in education team, gave an overview of AI and emphasized on innovations the Robotics Club can accomplish with the acquired skills in addressing developmental problems in the community.

Dr. Kwakye explained that, the AI4SD RAIL Robotics Club is an extracurricular activity which seeks to support students to couple their understanding of the various subjects with coding skills to produce solutions in addressing problems.
The Training of Trainers (ToT) begun after the inauguration with 4 mentors.

Dr. Kwame Oteng Gyasi introduced the mentors to Lego Robotics Manuals and Software for the entire training.
Dr. Kwame Oteng Gyasi, lead trainer for the RAIL Robotics Club, trained the mentors during the session.
Students expressed enthusiasm for the robotics club, with the Girls Prefect expressing gratitude for the launch of the initiative at the school.
