Former Ghana international Asamoah Gyan has alleged the purported rivalry between himself and Andre Ayew was created by people with ‘personal interest.’
The relationship between the two grew cold at a certain point of their career in the national team with many reporting the duo didn’t see eye to eye.
Ayew took over the Black Stars captaincy role from Gyan even before the latter announced his retirement, a move many believed caused the tension between the two.
However, Gyan believes the reported tension was created by people who ‘brainwashed’ Ayew.
“Andre is a good person. He has that genuine love for me but he has been brainwashed because it benefits people. That is what has brought the so called rivalry. Me I am not a rival to anyone,” Gyan said during an Instagram live session on Thursday, January 2, 2025.
The topic was among a host of issues the former Ghana man touched on during his rant on the social media platform.
