The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has assured stakeholders of the government's commitment to swiftly resolving the ongoing conflict between Asanko Gold Ghana Limited and the surrounding local communities.
The Minister gave this assurance during a working visit to the company's site on Tuesday, 16th September 2025, following recent tensions that had resulted in the destruction of property and equipment of the company and a fatality on September 9th.

The Minister's visit and comments come in the wake of a confrontation between military personnel and local community members on the company's concession, which destroyed company property valued at over US$33 million, and the tragic death of a resident.
Community members had expressed frustration over unmet development expectations, which they stated led them to encroach upon the company's concession.
Speaking to the leadership of Asanko Gold, Minister Buah emphasised the critical need for peaceful coexistence.

He stated that the government would take all necessary measures to address the underlying grievances, heal the rift between the company and the community, and ensure a lasting resolution.
"As a government, we are committed to getting to the bottom of this matter and ensuring that such a tragedy is not repeated. Dialogue and mutual understanding must prevail”, he said.
As part of the visit, the Minister conducted a brief inspection of Asanko Gold's mining operations.

He urged the company's management to strictly adhere to prescribed mining regulations and to prioritise community engagement and development as core aspects of their operations.

The minister also visited the family of the deceased, who was also the Assembly Member for the area.
He commiserated with the bereaved family and community members, assuring them of a thorough and transparent investigation.
The Minister was accompanied by a delegation including the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Minerals Commission - Mr. Isaac Tandoh, Advisor to the Minister - Prof. J.S.Y. Kuma, the Chief Inspector of Mines - Mr. Kofi Adjei, Director of Communications of the Ministry - Ms. Mawusi Mawuenyefia, the National Coordinator of the Responsible Cooperative Mining and Skills Development Programme (rCOMSDEP) - Ing. Frank Asare and other officials from the Ministry.
