A devastating fire ripped through parts of the Ashaiman Light Industrial Area (popularly known as Fitter Line) in the early hours of Tuesday, September 30, destroying over 100 wooden structures and leaving two metal containers completely gutted.
The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), in a Facebook post, confirmed that it received the emergency call at 03:31 hrs and promptly deployed personnel to the scene, arriving within seven minutes at 03:38 hrs.
Firefighters worked swiftly to confine the blaze by 04:13 hrs, brought it under control by 04:36 hrs, and fully extinguished the fire by 06:35 hrs.
The inferno, which tore through the densely packed industrial enclave, also partially burnt a Mazda saloon car (registration number GN 6085-22), and destroyed two metal containers and their contents.
However, through the efforts of the fire crew, more than 20 wooden structures, several containers, and eight vehicles were successfully salvaged.
Despite the scale of destruction, the GNFS confirmed that no injuries or fatalities were recorded, a relief in an area that is typically active with artisans, traders, and mechanics.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, with GNFS urging calm as they carry out a full assessment of the incident.
