A member of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Wonder Victor Kutor, has dismissed claims that the party’s National Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, is funding his “thank you tour” with state resources.
Speaking on Prime Insight on Joy Prime on Saturday, Mr Kutor insisted that the exercise is not being financed by government funds, stressing that he has the personal means to undertake it.
“Let me state categorically that the thank you tour by the national chair of the NDC is not funded by the state. I need to state this categorically. I know this for a fact,” he said.
According to him, the National Chairman is financially capable of covering his own costs.
“Asiedu Nketia is not a man of straw. He can go around to thank people from his own pockets,” Mr Kutor explained.
He added that suggestions of state sponsorship were misleading and should be put to rest.
“I want you to get me on record that the national chairman’s thank you tour is not sponsored by the state,” he stressed.
Mr Kutor also pointed out that Ghana’s financial procedures make it impossible for public officials to casually access state funds.
“There are means and processes of getting money from the state. If you’re even doing procurement, purchases are regulated by the Procurement Act. At times you need to write to the Public Procurement Authority. So you cannot just go into public office and take funds,” he explained.
