At least 15,200 persons have been affected by the recent floods in the northern region following torrential rains and spillage of the Bagre dam.
Out of this number, 400 houses were destroyed in 102 communities, 10,033 farms wasted and one bridge damaged in the Tolon District.
The Kumbungu District in the region was the worse affected by the floods which housed 1,478 males, 1,707 females, 2,027 male children, and 1,786 female children.
Svalegu Municipality had about 3000 people being displaced, followed by Saboba with 1,288. Tolon recorded 1054, Zabzugu reported 865, Gushegu listed 439 cases, Karaga reported 287 cases, and Tatale/ Sanguli counted 998 cases.
Works and Housing Minister Samuel Atta Akyea said government has put in place interim measures to minimise the effects of the spillage.
He advised that residents of affected communities must move to ensure their safety and prevent further harm.
Bagre Dam is a multipurpose dam on the White Volta located near Bagré Village in Burkina Faso.
