Barcelona are closing in on the signing of Ghana midfielder Thomas Partey, who is set to leave Arsenal as a free agent at the end of June.
The 32-year-old has reportedly rejected a contract extension from the Gunners and is keen on a return to Spain, where he previously played for Atlético Madrid.
His preference to remain in top-tier European football has made Barcelona an appealing destination.
According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, talks between Barcelona and Partey's camp have progressed significantly.
The Catalan giants, who have already secured Joan Garcia and are finalising moves for Nico Williams and Roony Bardghji, have now shifted focus to bolstering their midfield with Partey’s experience.
Barcelona sporting director Deco is said to be a strong advocate for Partey’s signing, citing his physical presence, tactical intelligence, and Champions League pedigree as key assets.
The free transfer also aligns with Barcelona’s current financial strategy, offering a cost-effective way to add depth and quality to their squad.
Despite interest from several clubs across Europe and the Middle East, Barcelona are reportedly in pole position.
A formal offer is expected soon, with the club hopeful of completing the move before the start of pre-season
