Jirapa constituency Member of Parliament, Cletus Seidu Dapilah says the 2024 flagbearer of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia is doing the opposite of what he criticised while in opposition.
Mr Dapilah emphasised that when discussions arise regarding the government doing the opposite of what they criticised, Dr Bawumia finds ways to exploit the rules to benefit himself or the government.
He emphasised that Ghanaians are wild awake to the strategy.
Speaking on the JoyNews' AM Show on Thursday, February 15, the Jirapa MP stated that under Dr Bawumia, inflation soared to an unprecedented 54%, which has never happened before in the history of the Fourth Republic.
“54% inflation under the economic Messiah. Dollar went to even 18 Ghana cedis and 15 Ghana cedis under Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. Fuel prices were skyrocketing under Vice President and now flagbearer Dr. Bawumia, GDP is ranging between 100% and 103% under Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
“President Nana Addo said that I am picking Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia because of his economic prowess. He is the one I would entrust with the economy. He is the one who would make sure that jobs would be created and that we would record good economic indicators.
“So today, Dr. Bawumia is running from the minuses in this government but wants to accept the positives,” he said.
Speaking on the same programme, the NPP MP for Anyaa-Sowutuom constituency, Dr Adomako Kissi disagreed with Mr Dapilah, emphasising that not all of Dr Bawumia's recommendations were taken into consideration.
“I believe that when he is at the helm of affairs and has full authority and a full mandate from Ghanaians, he will achieve what he desires for Ghana.
"The economic principles he holds dear are still dear to him. What has become very clear in the last few days is that his recommendations for the things he believes would impact Ghana and reduce our indebtedness, reduce our inflation rate, and reduce our interest rate have not all been adhered to, and I believe that when given the chance, he is more capable of handling this country than the alternative” he added.
