President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed his commitment to inclusive national development, pledging that the Ashanti Region will be a key beneficiary under his "Big Push" infrastructure agenda.
Speaking during a courtesy call by the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, at the Jubilee House on Monday, June 2, Mr Mahama assured the traditional ruler that his administration will ensure that the region will be considered in the national development drive.
"Your Majesty, under the Big Push infrastructure programme, we are once again about to start investment in major infrastructural projects across the country, and as the second most populous region in Ghana, Ashanti will not be left out," he said.
He emphasised that work will resume on several major infrastructure projects in the region that have either stalled or been delayed. He mentioned that major roads in the region will be constructed, the famous Kejetia market phase 2 will be completed, and major health facilities in the enclave will be constructed.
"It is our intention to continue and complete the phase 2 of the Kejetia market project, which has been affected by the debt exchange programme. We will also commence construction of the Kumasi outer ring road project. In the health sector, we will continue and complete the Sewa and Afari Military Hospitals....," he told Otumfuo..
The "Big Push" initiative, first announced during his 2020 campaign, is a strategic policy proposal to invest $10 billion in critical infrastructure across the country to stimulate economic growth, create jobs, and modernise Ghana’s socio-economic fabric.
