The Mankrado of Battor Traditional Area in the North Tongu district of the Volta region, Togbe Borbordzi VII, is advocating for the extension of industries to rural communities.
He believes that when this is done, it will address the problem of rural-urban migration, and unemployment and facilitate rural development.
In his view, Ghana's major cities and towns are overpopulated leading to a high cost of living in these cities.
The Chief called on successive governments and the political class to prioritise development in rural Ghana.
"I believe that our leaders, especially the politicians should be able to convince investors to set up factories in the villages, make them understand that they can have the free lands in the villages because Greater Accra, Tema and part of Kumasi have accumulated all the industrial areas so if they can send some of the factories to the villages that will make the village folks to get jobs.
Everybody wants to come to Accra, what are they looking for? They're looking for jobs, so if some of the jobs can be in some of the villages I'm not sure they'll be forced to go to Accra" he said.
"I am saying that the lands in our local areas are also good for factories not only Accra and Tema.
The Chief said industrializing rural Ghana will lead to road network improvement, as well as, electrification, water and sanitation.
