National Communications Officer for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi, has called for calm among party supporters who stormed the Police Headquarters Monday, December 23, ahead of his interrogation at the Cyber Unit of the Criminal Investigations Department.

His calls follow a postponement of a scheduled meeting by the security service.

Sammy Gyamfi, was on Tuesday, December 17 invited to the headquarters after a complaint from the Jubilee House over alleged cyber offences.

He has been accused of forgery and publication of false information targeted at tarnishing the image of the government.

A warrant was subsequently obtained from the Kaneshi District Court to seize personal items including mobile phones. His Facebook account details were also requested by the Police Service to aid with investigations.

Although a lawsuit has since been filed by his lawyers at the Accra High Court, asking for the District Court ruling to be overturned, the case is yet to be heard.

But Sammy Gyamfi who was present at the Police Headquarters at 11 am said, he is ready to comply with the police directive. He told supporters, the meeting has been adjourned to Tuesday 24, December at 11 am.

“I want to appreciate everyone who turned up today to support me. The police extended an invite to me to come and help with some investigation and because we believe in the law, we are here to help. If they claim to be busy, we will wait but if they want us to leave, we will go and return when they are ready. So I urge you all to be calm while we wait to hear from them.”

A member of his legal team, Victor Adawudu who spoke to JoyNews said his client will not miss the new schedule by the police.

“We were here to meet the police but they said due to some reasons the meeting cannot happen. But we suspect it’s because the President is coming over that is why they have rescheduled it, we have graciously agreed to go and return tomorrow. They went for a meeting and it was after the meeting that we were told it will not be possible to meet us.”

Other legal practitioners who accompanied Sammy Gyamfi to the meeting were Francis-Xavier Sosu, George Loh and Inusah Fuseini. Party executives together with supporters numbering over 200, were also present at the Police Headquarters to show support to the outspoken Communications Officer.
