Contractors for Kumawu Hospital Project are awaiting finance to commence major works on the stalled project.
Despite returning to the site, the final hurdle in the process of securing funding is yet to be passed by the Ministry of Finance.
The project has passed fifty percent of its completion with all physical structures almost done.
Already, the contractor is undertaking some external works as they await the required financing for the project.
Pavements, landscaping, drains among others are works ongoing.
Government on different occasions assured the Kumawu Hospital will resume work in the first term of the administration.
Though work could not start on dates promised, it is progressing steadily.
For about a month, contractors have returned to site, undertaking some external works. Manager for NMSI at Kumawu, Sammy Okine explained in few weeks there will be progress in the work done.
"The contractor identifies areas we need to do where we won't spend more than the amount we have presently," he told JoyNews.
He added that, ”There is another group coming, he has to ascertain what is there already as far as the conduits are concerned so we can go ahead and why he is not in yet is due to finance."
Mr Okine spoke to the media on the sidelines of a working visit to the facility by the Ashanti Regional Minister- designate, Simon Osei Mensah.
Kumawu and Fomena are part of seven facilities financed by United Kingdom Export Financing and work was to be completed in 2019.
The government says a total of $38.3 million out of contract sum $175 million was found in the coffers to complete the projects.
The amount government found inadequate to complete the projects, halting construction for an audit into the accounts.
Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei Mensah, explained that government is committed to providing funds for the projects.
"As the transitional act provides, there are limitations to the amount of work each minister in acting capacity can do. Nobody can approve anything above five million and that amount is insignificant in regards to projects but by middle of March we hope ministers will be cleared and then we start work in earnest," he said.
A visit by the Minister-designate to the 50-bed Konongo Hospital is found the facility nearing completion.
Structures are fully done awaiting furnishing and equipment installation.
Eurogett D'invest's Resident Engineer at Konongo Hospital, Ahmed Massoud says the few works on the structures should be done soon to receive equipment.
Mr. Osei Mensah further assured that roads linking the hospital and the community will be improved.
