The Ghana Covid-19 Private Sector Fund is working towards engaging the Ghana Armed Forces Engineers for the construction of a 100-bed infectious disease isolation and treatment facility at the Ga-East Municipal Hospital.
The initiative is being done in conjunction with the Ministry of Health in support of the fight against new coronavirus disease (Covid-19).
“We hope to commence construction on the 14th of April 2020 and complete the project within four weeks.
"Owing to the urgency and the current restrictions on the movement of people, we believe the Ghana Armed Forces is best placed to deploy quickly and execute within the set project schedules,” the Ghana Covid-19 Private Sector Fund stated in a letter to the Chief of Defence Staff.
The letter, sighted by Joy News, is seeking authorisation from the Chief of Defence Staff for the military men to be engaged in the project.
The letter also revealed that there have been preliminary meetings between Fund and Director-General, Medical Services and Director Engineer Services on the project.
“Volunteer Architects and Engineers from the Ghana Institute of Architects, The Built Environment Professionals and the Ministry of Health have since the 9' of April 2020 been working round the clock to finalize the design.
“They have been working in consultation with the National Case Management officials on Covid-19, the Ghana Armed Forces Engineers and the Ministry of Health,” the letter signed by Senyo Hosi, Acting Managing Trustee of the Fund, said.
