Croatia views Morocco’s 2007 autonomy plan as a “good basis” for resolving the regional dispute over the Moroccan Sahara.
This position was outlined by Croatia’s Minister of Foreign and European Affairs, Gordan Grlić Radman, in a Joint Declaration following a meeting in Zagreb with Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita.
Grlić Radman described the autonomy initiative as “a serious and credible effort” and “a solid basis for reaching a political and mutually acceptable solution in line with the relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions.”
He also reaffirmed Croatia’s longstanding support for the UN-led process aimed at achieving a just, lasting, and mutually acceptable political solution for all parties involved.
Both ministers emphasised the exclusive role of the United Nations in the political process and reiterated their backing for UN Security Council Resolution 2756 (2024), which underscores the responsibility of all parties to pursue a realistic, pragmatic, and compromise-based solution.
