Ghana is prepared to lend support to some countries on the African continent to protect their digital infrastructure.

This follows a number of cybersecurity threats identified on the continent.

Speaking at the Africa Cyber Experts Community kickoff meeting in Accra, Deputy Minister of Communications and Digitalisation, Ama Pomah Boateng, said since Ghana is leading its peers in the implementation of many policies to safeguard the digital space, the country will offer a hand to others as well.

The Africa cyber security experts’ community kickoff meeting was on the theme, setting the scene for cyber security status in Africa. It was aimed at attracting private sector support from the African Union, in dealing with the threat of cybercrimes on the continent.

Deputy Minister of Communications and Digitalisation, Ama Pomah Boateng assured that Ghana is making efforts to collaborate effectively in supporting the fight against cybercrime menace.

“Ghana is one of the few countries that have signed and implemented the Budapest Convention on cyber security and we as a country keeps learning from each other. I urge all other countries to sign on to the convention to improve upon the fight. Ghana continues to collaborate more with other countries and even support others to catch up with us on some of the measures” she told the gathering.

Acting Director General of the National Cyber security Authority, Dr. Albert Antwi Boasiako explained that the meeting is critical to the continent, hence the need to support all stakeholders.

“This meeting is very critical and needs the support of all stakeholders, citizens and industry experts because the suggestions will help the states to formulate policies in dealing with the threat of cyber-attacks on the continent."

“Knowing very well the consequences of an attack on the critical digital infrastructure which is one of the reasons we have designated some 200 critical facilities to implement the directives in the law”, he noted.

Member countries attending the three days meeting are expected to give an overview of the cyber security situation in their various countries and the way forward in the fight.
