Counseling psychologist, Naa Okailey has advised people in romantic relationships to always have the hard conversations no matter how difficult they seem.
According to her, not asking questions in relationships lead to one party making assumptions and this can be very dangerous.
She was speaking on Joy Prime’s Prime Morning on issues of divorce in marriages and some of the causes.
“So, you don’t work with assumptions when you’re dating people, ask all the questions, ask all the tough questions, ask everything.”
“One day when you become a billionaire, how do you envision yourself, then they answer, for me once I get to this place I’ll do this, I like this, then it gives you an idea of the person’s mindset. Then you know they’re the way they are now because they don’t have enough money yet but when they become rich a lot will change.”
“There are people who will say I’d like to have many wives but it’s just because I can’t afford it now, it means when they get to the point of affordability, you should be ready for more, so all those questions should be asked at the dating phase,” she explained.
She said this following the story of a divorcee on the same show, Lilian who shared how her ex-husband was not in support of she furthering her education.
According to Lilian, she was a stay-home mum and only had secondary education when she was married, and at a point when she decided to take up a job as a mobile banker, her husband was not pleased.
Later when the marriage became shaky, she decided to further her education in Business Administration at the University of Cape Coast in the Central Region.
"I went to my mum and I told her I wanted to further my education because the marriage is quite unstable and I’m scared, my mum said okay I’ll support you, and all of this the man wasn’t happy with it,” she said.
Lilian however, commended her ex-husband for his massive support and consistency in taking care of their kids even though he has re-married.
