The family of a 28-year-old trader who died in police custody has proceeded to court to seek justice.

The family has filed the case at the Accra High Court to ensure the perpetrators are brought to book.

Family spokesperson and an uncle, Rev. Dr Mathias Sarkodie, insist that Albert Donkor may have been targeted after chancing on a robbery scene involving some police officers.

Dr. Mathias Sarkodie is optimistic that this move will allow for thorough investigations into the sudden death of his relative.

“We have sent the issue to the Accra High Court to seek justice for Albert. The Police knew what happened, and we suspect they killed Albert to destroy evidence, so we have given the issue to the High Court in Accra to investigate the incident for us to know what happened,” he said on Accra-based Citi FM on Monday.

The Nkoranza South MP, Emmanuel Agyekum, has alleged that Albert was killed four hours after the armed Police officers picked him up.

He added that after the suspect was murdered, the Police took his body to the Techiman Holy Family mortuary.

According to him, he has accounts and evidence to prove his allegations.

“In fact, Albert was killed within three to four hours after he was picked up. I am telling you the truth, that within four hours, from 2 am to about 5 am, they had finished him, and they took him to the mortuary in Techiman Holy Family, and they refused to take the body because they needed a family member to sign for the body. I have all these accounts; if they want to deny, they should come and deny.

“So the young man was picked from his house, he was taken to the Police station, his statement was taken, if only it has not been doctored now or they have not changed it, they took him somewhere, and the boy was finished,” he narrated.

He said, “they have the people who wrote his statement, they have everybody, and they are all there. In fact, most of them who were stationed in Nkoranza have all run away. Find out if they are still at home.”
